Doctor Who #10Doctor Who #10
Written by Andy Diggle and Eddie Robson
Art by Andy Kuhn and Charlie Kirchoff
Covers by Mark Buckingham and Charlie Kirchoff
IDW Publishing
Release Date: June 19, 2013
Cover Price: $2.99

The latest issue of IDW’s Doctor Who enters the second part of a new story arc called Sky Jacks, which (plot wise) is about as mad as many of the episodes of the long-lived and much-loved television series. The current issues have now moved on from the Pond days of the Matt Smith Eleventh Doctor era, and now Clara Oswald, our new companion, is included in the IDW series.

The opening of this issue features a reunion between Clara and the Doctor – both have been sucked into a dimensional universe thingy of some kind through a white hole, that’s made their arrival more than timey wimey: for the Doctor, he’s been there three years (and now has a huge beard), and for Clara, it’s only been a few hours.

TARDISblend 50th Anniversary Header

The long-awaited season finale of Doctor Who series 7 is here, a climax that showrunner Steven Moffat and the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) have been racing towards (or running from?) for quite some time: “The Name Of The Doctor.” From the prophecy uttered, we witness the fall of the Eleventh, as the Doctor is forced to go to the place he must never go: Trenzalore – to a confrontation that will change everything forever for both the Doctor and for his companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) in which his greatest secret is finally revealed…

During TARDISblend 66, we discuss the major gamechanging spoilers that came out in force during the season finale, but also look at what it means for the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special. We touch on the role of River Song (Alex Kingston) in this episode, and the inferential implications within Moffat’s writing of the character.

We also look towards what’s next for Doctor Who, from the 50th to Christmas to Series 8, and lay out the possibilities for a wager laid down for the future of this very podcast. And finally, we review YOUR comments from our episodes this season. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Doctor Who TARDISblend Header 2013

The penultimate episode of Doctor Who Series 7, written by Neil Gaiman, finds the Doctor (Matt Smith) providing an unexpected trip for Clara’s (Jenna-Louise Coleman) children that she cares for in her nanny job. The group ends up on Hedgewick’s World Of Wonders, an abandoned intergalactic theme park that has found itself in some considerable ruin.

But the planetary amusement park is not empty – Webley (Jason Watkins) and Porridge (Warwick Davis) still remain as previous owners/workers; and a detachment of troops from the Great and Bountiful Human Empire strategically stay on planet. Behind the scenes though, a sinister menace has been waiting in dormancy, preparing for its rise to domination. The arrival of the Doctor has caused the awakening of this Nightmare In Silver, and the Cybermen are more menacing than ever…

During TARDISblend 65, we discuss what is arguably one of the best episodes of Series 7, and perhaps the best Cybermen story since the Classic series. We also dig into secrets associated with next week’s Series Finale, entitled The Name Of The Doctor, and briefly touch on some of the rumors surrounding the 50th Anniversary Special.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Doctor Who TARDISblend Header 2013

The latest Doctor Who begins in Victorian Yorkshire, as a mysterious plot is underway by the strangely obsessed Winifried Gillyflower (Diana Rigg) that many be connected to odd deaths that have become known as The Crimson Horror. Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart), and Strax (Dan Starkey) are called upon to investigate the mystery, only to find that the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) are somehow involved.

During TARDISblend 64, we take a look at what is probably the first "split plot" for Doctor Who, with the first half being Doctor-Lite, and the other not so much. We also discuss the interesting presentation of the flashback sequences in this episode, and begin highlighting some of the references to Classic Doctor Who through this season.

Later, we continue talking some of the strange rumors associated with the 50th Anniversary, including one spoilerific rumor that if it becomes true, Greg says he will continue the TARDISblend after the 50th Anniversary!

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Doctor Who TARDISblend Header 2013

Unseen, but heard of for years… since the Classic Doctor Who episode The Invasion of Time, and last season’s The Doctor’s Wife, fans now finally get to Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS. In a moment of lowered security, the TARDIS is magnetically hauled in by a group of salvagers, hoping to profit from the find.

But the TARDIS is damaged in the haul, and the Doctor (Matt Smith) separated from Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) as he is found inexplicably outside of the TARDIS. Slyly enlisting the assistance of the salvagers, the Doctor begins a search for Clara; which will lead to a perilous situation in which they will all need to find their way to the centre of the TARDIS…

During TARDISblend 63, we bring up the onslaught of continuity tips thrown in to the episode, from The Eye of Harmony to The Doctor’s Crib, and much more. We also go into the newer elements shown in the TARDIS within this chapter, including some that may play a part, or at least hold clues, to the season finale and the 50th Anniversary Special.
