Recently, a documentary was released to YouTube in three parts about what was a proposed movie called Blackstar Warrior, an all-black take on the Star Wars universe that features what would have been the first appearance of the Lando Calrissian character.

The documentary uncovers the sad tale of Frederic Jackson, Sr., an African-American businessman who attempted to self-finance Blackstar Warrior. The documentary also has interviews with Jackson’s son and reveals the obstacles and trials that prevented Blackstar Warrior from ever being completed.

You can watch all three parts of the documentary here below, the third part of which has what is being touted as actual footage from Blackstar Warrior. There’s been some talk that this documentary is a parody or a hoax, but Geeks of Doom had a chance to speak with Matt Haley, a comic book artist involved with this documentary, who helped clear up the situation for us. Check out our interview with Haley here below.

Week of Geek: The Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary

I, LobotWe all know the story so well: The young scrappy boy who shares an intimate kiss with his sister before going to learn “˜magic’ from a muppet in a swamp, the space princess sexually assaulted by a drug smuggler in a broom closet, the back-stabbing Colt .45 pitchman, and of course the reunion with the estranged father who then maims his son.

But what of the unsung heroes of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the little people who charge the blasters, reset the flyers, and get shot down by the AT-ATs?

Ladies and gentleman, here’s a peek at a day in the life of Lobot, Lando Calrissian’s faithful assistant on Cloud City.

Video: Turk From ‘Scrubs’ Pitches ‘The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian’

Donald Faison, who plays Turk on the television comedy Scrubs, made an appearance last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon promoting his new movie Next Day Air, which is up against Star Trek this weekend.

Faison said that he was more a Star Wars fan than a Trek fan and that he’s seen The Empire Strikes Back, his favorite movie of the saga, over 300 times. He said it was his love of the film that introduced him to stop-motion animation, which he learned to do as a child and even has a stop-motion animation studio in his home now.

Faison said if he were to pitch a Star Wars story to George Lucas, it would be The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian, starring himself as the title character and taking place prior the events of Empire when Lando still had the Millennium Falcon before he lost it to Han Solo in a Sabacc game. To help his pitch, he even created a short stop-motion animated clip, which he showed on the late night talk show.

The stop-motion clip is cute and adorable and Faison’s pitch is quite honestly something I’ve LOVE to see made into a television series. You can watch the interview segment with Faison, which includes the stop-motion clip, here below.

For those of you interested, there’s already a trilogy of pre-Empire Lando Calrissian books written by L. Neil Smith called Star Wars: The Lando Calrissian Adventures, which you can get for only $7.99 — definitely worth the read.
