“In all the mountains there was a forging and an arming. Then they marched and gathered by hill and valley, going ever by tunnel or under dark, until around and beneath the great mountain Gundabad of the North, where was their capital, a vast host was assembled ready to sweep down in time of storm unawares upon the South.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Co-written and directed by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the third and final chapter in a trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 fantasy novel, The Hobbit.

At the conclusion of 2013’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), and the Dwarves reclaimed the Lonely Mountain, but failed to kill the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). Unable to reclaim his precious treasure, the dragon fled the mountain and set his sights on laying waste to Lake-town.

The Battle of the Five Armies picks up only moments after, with Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) defending his home against the “Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities.” Meanwhile, Sauron sends forth legions of Orcs to the Lonely Mountain to attack Bilbo and the Dwarves. With Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) at their side, the races of Men, Elves, and Dwarves must unite to save Middle Earth from the Dark Lord and his minions.

Elijah Wood in Air New Zealand Safety Video

Air New Zealand has created what they have dubbed “The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made,” and it would not be easy to argue otherwise.

The safety video is inspired by the world of Middle-earth and the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies that are set there. It features cast and crew from those movies, such as star Elijah Wood, director Sir Peter Jackson, actor Dean O’Gorman (Fili), actor Sylvester McCoy (Radagast), and Weta co-founder and five-time Oscar-winning special effects, makeup, and costume design wiz Sir Richard Taylor.

Lord of the Rings Salted Pork

Many people are passionate fans of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. This man is one of them, without question. His girlfriend, on the other hand, probably isn’t too fond of the movies at this point.

A friend of the man in question compiled this collection of Snapchat clips of him barraging his girlfriend, often by surprise, with Lord of the Rings quotes…in the voice of the character whose line it is, of course.

You can watch the video below.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

The upcoming Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor from Monolith Productions and WB Games is one of the most anticipated video games being released soon, set in the same world as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (set between the two stories, as a matter of fact).

A new live-action short film has been made based on the game, which follow a part-wraith ranger named Talion seeking revenge for the murder of his family. The film sees a group of orcs crossing paths with the game’s protagonist, and includes one of the big features you’ll be able to use in playing: the ability to take control of an enemy and have them do your bidding.

Be sure to continue below to watch the Shadow of Mordor live-action short as well as a trailer. NSFW warning is in effect for some bloody good part-man/part-wraith-on-orc violence.

Sean Bean Survives Reddit AMA, Talks Walking Into Mordor & Jon Snow’s Paternity

Game Of Thrones Ned Stark Sean Bean

Sean Bean recently did a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) where he fielded questions from Redditors about Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings, and National Treasure (which yielded a creepy Nicolas Cage anecdote), as well as how most of his characters end up getting killed off. The fan-favorite actor was promoting his upcoming TNT drama, Legends, which launched a #DontKillSeanBean marketing campaign during last month’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Some of the quick questions in the AMA were:

– A role he wished he had for longer? [Ned Stark!]
– Favorite comfort food [chocolate]
– Who would he take into battle, Robert Baratheon or Aragorn? [Robert Baratheon]

There’s lots of cool tidbits like this throughout, but let’s see what Bean — who says he’s actually been mistaken for Mr. Bean — has to say about all that walking into Mordor business in the Lord Of The Rings and why on Game Of Thrones does his bastard son Jon Snow know “nothing.”
