Thanks to Be Kind Rewind, the process of “sweding” has been brought to light. In the film, Mos Def plays a video rental store clerk whose friend (played by Jack Black) accidentally erases all the videotapes in the store. The duo then proceed to “swede” a bunch of movie — they film themselves reenacting shortened versions of the movies and rent that to the customers.

As a promotion for the film, the Alamo Drafthouse’s held a “Be Kind Rewind” competition where entrants submitted their own sweded films. The winner of the competition was Terminator 2, Low Budgment Day, which was shot in 10 hours and had “one grueling night of editing” (according to the winners).
