Frank Miller Looking To Captain ‘Buck Rogers’

The Movie God   |    |

Buck RogersA while back it was rumored that Frank Miller was interested in directing a new Buck Rogers movie. Now, it’s being reported that Odd Lot Entertainment, the studio behind Miller’s Christmas Day debut The Spirit, are in negotiations to option the rights of Buck Rogers from Nu Image/Millennium, who obviously didn’t find any use for the property.

Buck Rogers is one of those characters that has been around for decades, having debuted in 1928 and shown up in many various forms from comic to TV to movies. No word on what the storyline would be if Frank Miller takes the story, just that it would likely be a darker take on the character doing heroic stuff in space.

It will be curious to see how this plays out. One would assume that Odd Lot might want to wait and see how The Spirit does before committing to something like this; and if early reports are any indication, it doesn’t sound like The Spirit will be breaking any records.

You have to also assume that this would be another completely green-screened movie, which drives me nuts. You can only do this so much, and as we’ve seen from gems like Sin City and 300 to what we’ve seen of The Spirit — the CG doesn’t make the movie, the director does. If this happens and it becomes Miller’s next project, fears will only double for the highly-demanded Sin City 2.

The question that I have is, how much does Miller’s seemingly mediocre efforts behind the camera affect the adaptations of his wonderful work on the pages?

One Response to “Frank Miller Looking To Captain ‘Buck Rogers’”

  1. A Nonny Mooose Says:

Miller has clearly become another classic example of an artist starting to believe his own bullshit. The only people I know who are even remotely familiar with Buck Rogers are either those who grew up watching that cheesy 80s show or that cartoon parody with Daffy Duck. Why anyone would go out of their way to promote a character no one really cares about anymore is beyond me.
