It’s been two months since New York Comic-Con”¦ are you feeling the itch? Was NYCC too overwhelming? If so, then New York WinterCon may be more your speed. For the second straight year, NY WinterCon rolls into Resorts World Casino NYC this coming weekend bringing with it the very best for sci-fi and genre fans. The convention will feature celebrity guests, epic movie reunions, cosplay contests, artist alley, panel discussions and Q&As, and vendors galore. Everything starts this Friday night, December 1st, in Queens, New York.
WinterCon this year is offering up some truly special treats for geeks in your family, young and old. The major attraction is a Blade Runner reunion. In the year that Blade Runner 2049 opened to critical acclaim, the stars of the original 1982 Ridley Scott classic will be on hand for a panel, Q&A, and of course to meet and greet and sign autographs. Rutger Hauer (Roy Batty), Sean Young (Rachael), William Sanderson (Sebastian), Joanna Cassidy (Zhora), and Kevin Thompson (Bear) will all be there with a Q&A scheduled at 2:00 PM on Saturday, 12/2.
Fan of the classic sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century? The stars of the series will be there as well. Buck Rogers himself, Gil Gerard, will join costars Erin Gray (Wilma Deering), Felix Silla (Twiki), Thom Christopher (Hawk), and Barbara Luna (Koori) for a panel on Sunday afternoon, 12/3. Other celebrity guests include Julian Glover (Game of Thrones & Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade), Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus), Scott Schwartz (A Christmas Story), and Terri Garber (North and South).
If you still need gifts for the geeks in your family, hundreds of vendors will be there selling all sorts of collectible merchandise. You can see a list of vendors as well as artists in Artist Alley, on the WinterCon website. You can buy your tickets for the convention, and plan your weekend. Kids will enjoy the show too, with lightsaber training by the Empire Saber Guild, and a kids costume showcase.
Resorts World NYC is located at 110-00 Rockaway Boulevard, Jamaica, NY, 11420, easily accessible by car from the Belt Parkway. Doors open Friday at 5:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM.
