Hope Larson will be adapting the classic Madeleine L’Engle novel A Wrinkle In Time into a new graphic novel. The title will also eventually become a movie, but for now, this news promises to deliver a beautiful visualization of a world many fans have only known in their own imaginations.
The young author and illustrator shared the news with her fans on her Twitter earlier today, saying “I’m thrilled to announce, at long, long last, that I’m writing and illustrating the graphic novel adaptation of A WRINKLE IN TIME!”
Larson is known for her writing, illustrating, and cartooning talents — usually in the world of graphic novels. The Eisner Award-winner’s titles include Salamander Dream, Gray Horses, Chiggers, and her latest, Mercury.
After making the announcement, Larson touched on it further via her Livejournal account, which you can read below.
I’m thrilled to announce, at long last, that I’m writing and illustrating the graphic novel adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time for Farrar, Straus and Giroux!
This is a dream project. Wrinkle is one of my favorite books, and Madeline L’Engle is one of my favorite authors and a huge influence on my storytelling. I think I said in an interview a couple years ago that it’s the only book I’d consider adapting. Little did I know it would actually happen!
If you’re worried about me messing with a book that means so much to so many people, well, I understand. It’s impossible for an adaptation to capture everything that makes the original work so special. Please know that I’m treating the book with respect and sticking as close to the original as possible, while making the changes that need to be made so it sings as a graphic novel.
I look forward to sharing my version of L’Engle’s story with you””in a long couple of years.
Are you excited about the thought of seeing A Wrinkle in Time given this new, visual life, or are you with the purists who would rather it stayed in novel form alone?
