The first episode of Doctor Who Series 6 is finally here! And in The Impossible Astronaut we find our heroes, the Doctor and his companions, separated for an unexplained reason. They are reunited by numbered TARDIS Blue envelopes containing a summons, taking them to the United States, where a Stetson-wearing Doctor explains to them they must travel back to Space 1969.
But there’s more than this Doctor is telling them, for his next few moments will have deadly consequences, and set a path for his companions to travel back in time where they will meet a new dangerous villain known only as The Silence.
During TARDISblend 23, we review the events of The Impossible Astronaut, and speculate how everything ties into both the upcoming episodes of Series 6, and the unanswered questions and clues left over from Series 5. We discuss the oddities surrounding the 1103-year-old Stetson Doctor, and ponder the absence of his TARDIS as well as a couple of other confusing issues.
We highlight that the secret ship seemingly belonging to The Silents is exactly the same tech as the Lodger NegaTARDIS we saw during Series 5’s The Lodger, and examine what this could possibly mean; and we also take a look at the character played by the wonderful Mark Sheppard in this episode.
Amy Pond’s secret revelation to the Doctor set Twitter alight for U.S. fans during the BBC America airing, and finally, we pick up on a couple of Classic Doctor Who homages and nods in The Impossible Astronaut as well. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!
Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a mini podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures of Doctor Who – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!
