When you have a $1 billion-plus franchise on your hands, the idea of letting that go just doesn’t seem in the cards. Hasbro knows this, and isn’t about to let Transformers sit there on the shelf.
THR is reporting that Hasbro is currently chatting with both Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay to return as producer and director respectively for a fourth film in the long running, much maligned film franchise.
So, no real shock here, but at this point, don’t be surprised if Bay bails on directing the project. Bay has been trying to get a smaller project, Pain And Gain, off the ground here, so to see Bay on board as producer would be a much likelier possibility. The cast hasn’t been signed on yet for a new project, with star Shia LaBeouf coming out and saying he won’t do a fourth film, so it will likely be a film set in the universe, but with new characters.
And you know what, that breath of fresh air could be just what this franchise needs. Color me slightly intrigued.
