If you watched the Season 2 finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead tonight, then you saw a mysterious hooded figure appear near the end of the episode. Fans of the Robert Kirkman comic book series most likely knew right away which character this was, but Kirkman himself confirmed on a special post-finale live episode of AMC’s The Talking Dead that the hooded figure is Michonne.
Kirkman then revealed (and AMC soon after sent out an official statement) that actress Danai Gurira (Treme/The Visitor) played Michonne in the episode and will return as the character in Season 3.
Comics fans speculated that the character would soon make her entrance into the AMC television series after a 6-page story was published in the April 2012 issue of Playboy magazine which tells the origin story of Michonne. The origin story, which was written by Kirkman with art by Charles Adlard, explains who her chained “pets” are and why she keeps them close, according to THR, which has a 2-page preview of story.
In the season 2 finale, Michonne is hooded and cloaked with her face completely hidden, and she appears wielding her trademark katana sword and has her two chained pet walkers with her. (The image above is a screenshot I took of Michonne from The Walking Dead Season 2 finale.)
