Geek Guide To Easter Headgear

On a day unlike any other — the day of bunnies, peeps, and Zombie Jesus — we thought it best to take a look at some of the best geek bonnets (and hats) that you should be rocking in the midst of this weekend’s forced family fun.

Here’s our Geek Guide to Easter Headgear.

Steampunk

Steampunk Bonnet

If you want to call something art, put a bird on it. If you want to call something steampunk, put a clock on it. The people at Noble Studios did just that with this hat which may or may not be for sale any longer. 5 inches tall and 22 inches in circumference, the hat is affixed with vintage gears and velvet ribbon — the perfect bonnet for an Easter tea party.

May the force be with you

George Lucas is many things, a genius, a charlatan, and a clear hat fetishist. That’s right, Lucas is the galaxy’s greatest haberdasher. Think about it, helmets, hats, and headdresses, nobody on either side of the galactic divide is ever going to get a cold head. Check out some of these Star Wars-inspired hats and go with a slightly more casual look.

Princess Leia

Wouldn’t you like to be a warm-eared Druish Princess? You can get the pattern to make this hat here.

Boba

How about a Bounty Hunter? This one isn’t out yet, but it is available for pre-order from BeeBeeKins here.

Vader Project

You aren’t likely going to find one of these, but these Vader helmets, which were re-imagined by a gaggle of artists for the Vader Project, a traveling exhibit from a couple of years ago, are just beautiful. The helmets were auctioned off after the exhibition, you can read more about it and check out more pictures over at Lost in a Supermarket.

The man they call Jayne

Jayne Hat

How could we do this list without Jayne’s cunning hat from Firefly?

Replicas

The above custom jobs are amazing examples of geek DIY, but sometimes you want to get as close to the real thing as is possible.

Doctor Who Fez

Fez’s are cool, or so the Doctor says. Personally, I prefer a Panama hat and a sprig of celery in my lapel, but to each his own. Anyway, this isn’t an exact replica of the Doctor’s Fez, I believe that one didn’t come with a tassel, but you know, scissors are splendid, so snip snip. Extra credit if you buy this and wear it as Sallah.

Dalek Helmet

This Dalek helmet isn’t just a head covering, it also lets you speak like a Dalek when wearing it. Oh sure, you’ll get some cross glances, and it, like many, many, many of these other entries pushes the definition of “bonnet” to the absolute max — but isn’t it all worth it to say “Exterminate!” whilst hunting for Easter Eggs?

Indiana Jones

And now, the last of it. The greatest hat ever worn, surpassing all Pope hats, helmets, and other such cranium covers — the Indiana Jones fedora. Rugged and iconic, I would cross through a pit of snakes to wear this hat on Easter Sunday, and I hate snakes.
