Fans of Marvel Studios’ superhero ensemble film, The Avengers, can soon own the Blu-ray and DVD when it hits store shelves in late September. We’ve already seen one hilarious gag reel showing the light heartedness of the film, but the following clip that Marvel has released is the polar opposite of that, and it shows the movie could have had a very different opening.
Check it out below.
The alternate intro debuted on Yahoo, and it shows New York City having just survived Loki’s attack. The intro almost mirrors the aftermath of 9/11, with glimpses of police officers and soldiers helping the injured. The only superheroes that make it into this alternate cut are Hulk, who only gets a quick glimpse, and Captain America, who is appears in the corner of the clip. But that’s what I like most about this clip, is that the real heroes are out there doing the best to protect us from any threat and they will not stand down. It also shows that superheroes can be just as vulnerable as humans.
We also get to see a bloodied Agent Maria Hill (Coble Smulders) being interrogated by various heads of S.H.I.E.L.D. She claims that although she reported Nick Fury to be a loose cannon that focuses only on superheroes, he did his best to protect the city.
It’s a nice clip and it was surprising to see that director Joss Whedon actually thought of something like this, but somehow it would not have fit with the overall vision of the movie. It should be interesting to see what else Whedon excluded from the film.
