At first I thought a Lego movie would literally fall apart into multicolored pieces. The idea of a film centered on the connective building blocks sounded like a bad one.
Then 21 Jump Street helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were brought in to direct and it was revealed that title would be Lego: The Piece of Resistance, and that Channing Tatum and Will Arnett will voice Batman and Superman, two supporting characters who will appear in the film.
And now comes word that Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks are signed on to lend their voices to the film as well. This certainly sounds like anything but a bad idea.
Deadline reports that Freeman will be voicing Vitruius, but there is no word on who Banks will be voicing. Chris Pratt is signed on as the most important piece to the film. He will voice the main character, Emmet, an average normal looking Lego figure who is mistaken for The Master Builder. Emmet must team up with Batman and Superman and put a stop to a villainous force that seeks to glue the universe together.
The entire premise may sound a bit strange, but I have faith that Lord and Miller can give us something to be excited for. After all they did direct Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, so they have experience in the animation department. So it should be fun to see the two directors jump back into a family friendly film after taking on the raunchy cop comedy 21 Jump Street.
Warner Brothers has scheduled Lego: The Piece Of Resistance for a tentative February 28, 2014 release.
