Matt Reeves‘ The Batman has been making some big-name casting news in recent weeks with actors like Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Jeffrey Wright all joining Robert Pattinson, who will be playing the titular character. Then, just last week, Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis were reported to be in talks to join the upcoming film as well.
Now another actor has been cast. However, you may not have heard of her, and there is a reason for that. New reports confirm that Jayme Lawson has joined the film. More on the report below.
A Collider exclusive says Lawson is fresh out of The Juilliard School, and has landed an undisclosed but notable role for a film that we still know very little about. Though it has been reported that Reeves wants to explore Batman’s formative years and focus more on the Dark Knight’s detective skills, there is no confirmation that we will be seeing that in the film.
There is no telling who Lawson will be playing. However, if I had to guess, I would like to see her as Batgirl. But a gender-bent Batman villain would be just as cool. Again, all we can do at this point is guess. And it’s great to see that Reeves and WB are willing to take a chance on an unknown for one of their biggest films.
Lawson will be joining Kravitz, who will play Selina Kyle aka Catwoman; Dano, who will play the criminal genius Riddler; Wright will play Commissioner Gordon, Batman’s closest friend and ally in the ongoing war against crime in Gotham City. Farrell and Serkis are in talks to play Penguin and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively.
Collider also adds that in a video posted on the Juilliard website that Catwoman is one of the heroes that Lawson would have liked to have played. Of course, that isn’t happening anytime soon. However, it is still very impressive that someone who is coming straight out of Juilliard can land a role in one of the biggest films from a major studio.
Warner Bros. has scheduled to release The Batman on June 25, 2021.
