For a long time, at least since 2007, Dwayne Johnson has promised us that there would be a Black Adam movie, with him starring in the title role.
It’s not exactly clear what the delays were that prevented the film from being released earlier, but it is starting to look like it finally has a solid release date. More on the report below.
Johnson took to Instagram to post the news, and attached artwork from Jim Lee and Boss Logic (seen below).
But while the actor expressed excitement about taking on the role, a majority of the post contains nods to Superman. And even though Johnson typically plays the hero or just general good guy, Black Adam has previously been depicted as a villain. But we’ve been hearing about how the actor will be changing the way we see the character by making the him more of an anti-hero.
It will be interesting to see if Black Adam will just be a one-off kind of film, the same way that Joker was designed to be. But since he is playing a character like Black Adam, there’s the possibility that he will come across Shazam at some point. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.
For now, we know that Black Adam looks like it’s on the way. Johnson says the film has been set for a December 22, 2021 release.
