In what has to be the biggest announcement to come out of this year’s New York Comic Con is the revelation that Clark Gregg will return as the beloved character Agent Phil Coulson in Marvel’s planned S.H.I.E.L.D. television series.
The TV show will be helmed by Avengers director Joss Whedon, along with fellow Executive Producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen Jeffery Bell, and Jeph Loeb. Few details about the show are available at this point, in fact Gregg’s casting may be the first real news we’ve heard about who will be in the show.

Coulson famously “died” towards the end of this summer’s blockbuster The Avengers, but rumors have persisted since the movie opened that the character did not really die as was shown.
Gregg was on hand at the show to talk about his upcoming role on Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man show, and presented a video with Whedon and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announcing the characters return. Whedon said “There was never gonna be a S.H.I.E.L.D. show without Agent Coulson.” The crowd at the show reacted to the news with chants of Coulson’s name.
Stay tuned as we learn more about the series. Hopefully this will be the start of more announcements as production on the show moves forward.
