Disney has chosen the next of their hand-drawn animated movies to remake as a live-action feature.
Joining the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and upcoming titles Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is now developing a live-action take on the 1941 classic Dumbo.
The new live-action take on Dumbo will be written by Ehren Kruger, who is also producing along with Justin Springer. Kruger’s writing credits include the recent Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Brothers Grimm, The Skeleton Key, The Ring and its sequel, and Scream 3.
The movie will tell the familiar story of a baby elephant who’s teased for his large ears, but will also add some sort of unique family story that will parallel the elephant’s tale. With the original running only around an hour in length, it’s no surprise that the plan is to add a little more substance.
No word yet on who will direct or star in Dumbo.
