The Facebook account for Mel Brooks‘ Star Wars parody Spaceballs has posted something very interesting indeed.
An image was posted showing Dark Helmet (played in the movie by Rick Moranis), some planets and space stuff, and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and Barf’s (John Candy) space RV along with the words “This Friday…Something EPIC Is Coming.” The words are accompanied by the hashtag #TheSchwartzAwakens.
So what could the Facebook account for a movie from 1987 be teasing? Could it be the long awaited but never expected Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, which just this past February Brooks himself talked about making after Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released?
Click on over to the other side to see the image that was posted.
Under the Facebook post was this message:
Dark Helmet is back with something that proves his Superior social virility. Tune in to @FoxHomeEnt on Periscope this Friday to find out what it is! #TheSchwartzAwakens
Because it’s Fox Home Entertainment, it seems most likely that it’s a brand new Blu-ray release, perhaps a super special edition. There are already multiple Spaceballs Blu-ray options on the market, including the basic Blu, the excellent Mel Brooks Collection, and the 25th Anniversary Edition.
Then again, who knows. It could be any number of things. Maybe they’re going to do a small sequel and release it directly on Blu-ray or a streaming service like Netflix. Either way, it’s something fun for Spaceballs fans to think about.
If they are going to do some kind of sequel, now would be the very best time to do it with the resurrection of the Star Wars franchise, set to begin this December with J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens, which will be followed next year by Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, and then continues on from there.
What do you think/hope is being teased?
