Mel Brooks Talking To MGM About Spaceballs 2

After a screening of his comedy classic Young Frankenstein yesterday, Mel Brooks himself took part in a Q&A with the fans. Of course someone was going to ask about Spaceballs 2.

When asked the question, Brooks said that MGM is interested in it due to the success of new Star Wars movies The Force Awakens and Rogue One, and that he’s currently talking with the studio about it.

Continue below to see a video of Brooks answering the question and more.

The last substantial thing we had on Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, came when Brooks was a guest on Adam Carolla’s Take A Knee podcast. At the time, he said he would like to make the sequel with as much of the original cast as he could, and do it after the release of The Force Awakens. That was over two years ago now.

He was 88 years old at the time, and now is at the nice round age of 90. Good year to make a new movie? Why not! Because he’s the age he is and still out there doing what he loves is why he’s a part of an upcoming HBO documentary titled If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast. The doc follows Brooks and others over 90 who are still living active lives. You can check out a trailer for this below, as well.

Thanks to Reddit user TK_424, who was in the audience for the Young Frankenstein screening, for sharing the latest Spaceballs 2 update from Brooks!

The screening was at NJPAC in Newark, NJ, who shared the video of Brooks’ response via Twitter:
