When it was announced that Disney would be releasing Wreck-It Ralph 2, fans really got excited. The title character (voiced by John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) would be returning for an all new arcade adventure that would be set on the Internet.
But sometimes sequel titles can be as simple as adding a number after the title or just adding a subtitle. But not for Disney, who had their presentation at CinemaCon2017 last night. They revealed a few of their titles to theater owners, including a new title for Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. More on the story below.
As the title suggests, Ralph does something that causes the Internet to go haywire. We should have seen this coming considering all the parody sites like Gügle (a play on Google) and Buzzzaholic (a play on Buzzfeed) that appeared in the first image for the sequel. But as to how he breaks the Internet, that was unclear.
While the first film saw Ralph and Vanellope saving the arcade from a devastating virus, the sequel will take these new characters to brand new locations that can only be explored on the Internet.
Of the sequel and setting, Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia director Rich Moore said:
“To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore. Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.”
Added Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia screenwriter and Wreck-It Ralph 2 co-director Phil Johnston:
“We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again, and we have new characters we look forward to unveiling. At the center of this film, as in the first one, is the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope, two once-outcasts, who in each other, found true friendship.”
In addition to revisiting the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope, the film will also see the return of Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch) and Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer).
Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 opens in theaters on March 9, 2018.
Here’s a look at the new title, which was revealed on the official Disney D23 Twitter account:
