relaunch banner

As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comic books this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all started three weeks ago with the releases of the last issue of DC’s summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1.

This Wednesday is the third big week of releases and I’m picking up a lot of these books, and there are still a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you and I will probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they’re about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I’m not in love with a lot of the decisions that they’ve made, so this should be fun!

In Geoff Johns‘ most recent post on DC’s The Source Blog, in which he reveals the photos of the live-action Blue Beetle test footage, Johns also talked about the upcoming Young Justice project and the debut of an all new Aqualad. He reveals that not only will this new Aqualad, who will be named Jackson Hyde, be a main character in the upcoming television show, but he will also play a large role in the current Brightest Day title.

If that is not enough information for you, then how about we talk specifics. Johns also revealed that the Aqualad character will be introduced in the Mera and Aquaman storyline in issue #4 and will “come into his own” in issue #10. Both of those issues are a good set up for the show considering they are going to be released before the show hits the airwaves. The best way to understand what kind of character Jackson is is to quote John’s, and here is how he describes the all new Aqualad:

Earlier this week we reported that Geoff Johns tweeted about some footage of a live-action Blue Beetle show was floating around in this mystical “Vault.” [Read Live Action Blue Beetle TV Series In Development?]

Now, Johns has released some screen captures from that test footage, which can be seen at the bottom of this post.

Johns talked about what he has always wanted to see ever since he started working behind the scenes and how as a fanboy himself he wanted to share what he got to see with his fellow fanboys. Well from one fanboy to another, thank you Geoff Johns!

As discussed previously, Johns has continued to say that he will be bringing the actual video footage with him to San Diego Comic Con this year and show it at as many DC panels as he can, so that everyone gets a chance to see it. I am really excited to see how the CGI works. If it works anywhere near as good as it looks in these pictures for a very low budget test than that could end up working very well for the small screen.

Well enough of this beating a dead horse, let me go ahead and quote Johns’s awesome admission of fanboy-ism and let you get to checking out these awesome photos.

See update at the end of this post.

That’s right comic fans, right on the heels of the news about The Flash and Green Lantern 2 movie news [read Warner Brothers Signs Writers for “˜Green Lantern 2′ and “˜The Flash’] we get three Twitter updates from Geoff Johns announcing another project in development.

In contrast to the previous news this isn’t a top tier character and this is also not going on the big screen but instead on the small screen. Let’s get to the point, Johns said that DC Entertainment has plans for a Blue Beetle live-action television show.

Below are his three tweets in order that were posted at around noon on Sunday June 13th:

-BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes’ scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome.

-Blue Beetle’s going to appear in most of the Brave and the Bold’s this year and we’re hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed!

-If I can break it out of the vault, I’ll bring it to SDCC. LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE!!
