Grab your fedora and your trenchcoat as Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet Hits Stands This Week!
Still upset that Kevin Smith‘s version of the classic noir radio hero isn’t going to make it to the silver screen? Now you’ll get your chance to see Silent Bob’s version of the Fran Striker’s Green Hornet with art by Jonathan Lau. Dynamite Entertainment will be publishing a 10-page miniseries based on the unproduced Green Hornet script Smith wrote for Miramax films. Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet #1 will hit newsstands this Wednesday, March 3, 2010, with covers by Covers: Alex Ross, John Cassaday, J. Scott Campbell, and Stephen Segovia.
Smith had been tapped to write and direct a Green Hornet film for release back in 2005, with George Clooney slated to star as the Hornet and Jet Li as his martial arts side-kick Kato, but the project never went anywhere. Seth Rogen is now slated to play the hero with Michael Gondry directing the film version. During a Q&A at Wondercon last year, Kevin Smith announced that Dynamite Comics were producing his script, which includes multiple Kato’s, including a female one.
Smith’s history of writing comic books has been hit or miss. His initial work with Green Arrow: Quiver, Daredevil: Guardian Devil, and Green Arrow: Sounds of Violence were well received by critics and audiences alike, but Smith had issues producing scripts on a regular schedule, which slowed the release of Daredevil/Bullseye and Black Cat. He has since produced a pair of miniseries, Batman: Cacophony and Batman: The Widening Gyre, for DC Comics. Fans will be happy to know that for the Green Hornet all ten issues have already been laid out, so their will be no delays in production.
Check out CBR for a look at all the covers, as well as a 7-page preview of issue #1.
