We’re starting to see a lot of promo now for The Runaways, which will get a wide release next month, in the form of clips, images, and TV interviews. The movie is based on the all-girl rock band of the same name, which rose to stardom in the 1970s and launched the career of rock goddess Joan Jett.
On Tuesday night, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts performed The Runaways popular tune “Cherry Bomb” on The Tonight Show and afterward Jett sat down to talk with host Jay Leno about the film and her beginnings as a teenage rock star.
Watch the video of the performance and interview here below.
This isn’t Jett’s first outing for the film. In January at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film make its debut, Jett come out for a performance and stars Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart (the latter stars in the movie as a teenage Joan Jett) join the band on stage.
You’ll probably be hearing a lot of “Cherry Bomb” in the next few weeks, as the song from the film is already streaming online, along with a music video from The Runaways. Jett co-wrote the song back in the 1970s and re-recorded it with The Blackhearts for her 1984 solo album Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.
