So did you like Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Are you a fan of Russell Brand and Jonah Hill? If you said yes to either of those, than you probably have already watched Get Him to the Greek. If you have seen other Judd Apatow films, you probably won’t be very shocked at what was brought to the table by this movie but if you like that kind of thing this will definitely be a movie you will enjoy.
I really have to say that I was very impressed by the writing in this movie. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller did a great job with almost all of the dialogue and the situations were extremely funny. I was not as big a fan of the directing and some of the acting could have used a little work, but overall the movie was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it a lot.
Speaking of acting, the cast in the movie was extremely packed. I would say a majority of the budget was probably spent on casting alone. Some highlights outside of the two main characters are Aziz Ansari, Sean Combs, Zoe Salmon, Lars Ulrich, Pink, Billy Bush, Kurt Loder, Christina Aguilera, Elisabeth Moss, and many many more. Overall the some of the most fun in the movie is the different cast members and the cameos that you have to constantly look out for. This all coupled with some high quality comedy makes for a really fun comedy and a great summer movie.
Well let’s get to it guys. It’s time for the SPOILER TALK! Below are my spoiler laden thoughts about Get Him to the Greek and even farther below that is the comment section is where you can leave your thoughts about the movie as well.
WARNING: If you have not seen Get Him to the Greek, do NOT read any further. There will be SPOILERS below.
-Being introduced to Aldous Snow with those gold leather pants definitely made me laugh. Then directly after that we find out that Aldous wants to look like the “African white space christ” holy crap this already shows what a crazy guy he is. I was laughing my ass off when I heard that line. That should be the new xbox game, White African Space Christ versus zombies.
-Of course the reality of Jackie Q is that there is an over abundance of up-skirt shots of celebrities who, in the words of Kath and Kim, have “No Class.”
-Apparently a good party ends with a glitter-covered dick. Thank you Aziz for making that clear for all of us.
-So maybe we should all try a new business model titled thicken the stream and see if it catches on in the business world.
-There was definitely a scene that was in the trailer that I really like that got cut out right here. Aziz was trying to sell flush tones and it was so funny but it was cut out. I really wish there was more Aziz Ansari in this movie.
-Seems to me that a small problem for me was trying to take Jonah Hill seriously as an adult. Not that I disliked the Aaron character but I am so used to him playing a teenager that it is really weird seeing him trying to be an adult especially when he asks his girlfiriend if she is on her period just because he is not getting what he wants.
-I love it, Aldous introduces himself “I’m Aldous Snow, the rock star.” I think everyone should introduce themselves that way. “I am Jim Bob the McDonald’s fry cook.”
-Every movie needs to have a Harry Potter cameo. The look on Tom Felton‘s face was hilarious.
-Funny that he is more worried about his butt getting wet than he is with the fact that he is completely and totally cheating on his woman. Even more concerning is the fact that these women would rather use condoms as balloons than as protection for safe sex. You will probably have a burning sensation very soon Aaron.
-Another scene from the trailer where Aldous asks Aaron if they should go jogging is also missing.
-The Sarah Marshall reference was a bit much. It was almost to the point where it was like please stop patting yourself on the back.
-I couldn’t stop laughing when the two lines with Sean Combs were said. “Your four zippers away from thriller” and “Your one shirt away from Carlton.” How could you go wrong with a Fresh Prince reference?
-All of Aldous’ songs are hilarious especially “We got the clap.”
-Is it socially okay to talk directly to a woman’s vagina?
-Someone is a complete and total Bryant fan. Almost as big a fan of Bryant as he is of The Biggest Loser. Is that an implication that Sean Combs was fat before? Probably not but that would be funny to see Combs in a fat suit.
-Isn’t that wonderful that you have your pubic hair cut into a microphone. Aaron you’re a big enough guy to knock her off. Why would you let yourself get raped!?
-Combs covering his house in furry walls actually sound eerily possible in real life. It probably would look like a giant werewolf too.
-That adrenaline shot making him freak out even more than the Jeffrey is hilarious. And who the heck would put that many drugs in their system and expect any less then a freak out? He made a two-page list of all the drugs included, jeez.
-All of Combs crew loves to watch Cher, what they don’t tell you is that they also went to their second favorite Vegas show, Barry Manilow.
-When Aaron says no like four times that made me laugh so hard because me and my friends used to do exactly that all the time.
-It is extremely hard to relate to Aldous when he is creepily standing there in his briefs. I don’t know if I am underwear biased, but it seems to me that briefs just incite laughter.
-Apparently chocolate-covered strawberries can solve every problem. I will remember that next time I screw up at work. I will light some candles and bring in chocolate-covered strawberries and he will be very happy again.
-Wow that has to be the most awkward set up for a threesome ever. Why would he even suggest that when he knows it will piss Aaron off?
-Wow that bone sticking out is pretty serious. Wrapping it up with gauze would not stop the bleeding that is for sure.
-The funny thing is Combs is pretty accurate, most of the British rock stars don’t die. Mick Jagger may even be a zombie or a vampire.
-Another classic song from Aldous: “My Beans and Mash.” I really want the soundtrack to this movie now. Especially if half of these songs are on there it will be worth it just for those.
-I love that Aaron thinks he is grunge but really he is just a lesbian.
Your turn… What did you think of Get Him to the Greek? Was it better or worse than Forgetting Sarah Marshall? How did it compare to the other comedy offerings this year?
