Secret Avengers preview art

Joe Quesada announced a bevy of new Marvel projects at his annual Cup O’ Joe panel at WonderCon 2011. Sure there’s tons of focus on the upcoming Captain America and Thor films, but at this panel there were plenty of tasty comic book announcements too. Perhaps the most notable of these announcements was that writer Warren Ellis and artist Jamie McKelvie will be teaming up to take over Secret Avengers in August. All that Quesada would say about Ellis’ run on the series is that the stories will be of the single-issue variety. So, sounds like no big story arc this time around.

Quesada also announced Red Skull Incarnate, a five-issue mini series starting in July written by Greg Pak and featuring art by Mirko Colak. You may recognize Pak’s name from his work on World War Hulk and Planet Hulk, among others. The primary story arc follows a young kid from the streets of Germany to becoming one of the most evil villains in the Marvel Universe. This could be a fantastic sort of dark side Jedi story where a kid with potential for good finds his way down the wrong path. Along with this main story the miniseries is also supposed to be a Fear Itself tie-in.

The story is set in Berlin during at the beginning of the Nazi party era. David Aja is crafting the covers in the style of World War II propaganda posters all the way down to the smallest of details, such as tattered pages and creases.

The question is how will this story tie into Fear Itself?

  1. Ellis on Secret Avengers is great news. First i thought i wouldn’t go past Bru’s issues. Then I heard Nick Spencer would be on for Fear itself so I decided to stick for that, now Ellis comes on for at least 6 issues. they should re-name the series The Astonishing Secret Avengers due to the all-star writers it has been getting.
Also, Astonishing should be revoked from X-Men for the writers there are not astonishing any longer.
