GoD List Banner

Each and every week “Boom Boom!” Henchman21 and “Mr. Tuesday Night” MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 31, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Now, something is happening today in comics. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but… oh yeah! It’s the day that the new Locke and Key issue comes out! Oh, you expected us to talk about Justice League or Flashpoint? Get real! This feature is about comics that we are looking forward to the most, and the last time I checked, we’re way more interested in indie comics. Also, there’s not any Batman comics coming out this week, and I honestly don’t know where a lot of those will stand in my favorite comics. The Hench and I aren’t holding back this week, so if you’ll let me check my watch real quick… Yep. It’s clobberin’ tiiiiiiiime!!!!!!!!!

Secret Avengers preview art

Joe Quesada announced a bevy of new Marvel projects at his annual Cup O’ Joe panel at WonderCon 2011. Sure there’s tons of focus on the upcoming Captain America and Thor films, but at this panel there were plenty of tasty comic book announcements too. Perhaps the most notable of these announcements was that writer Warren Ellis and artist Jamie McKelvie will be teaming up to take over Secret Avengers in August. All that Quesada would say about Ellis’ run on the series is that the stories will be of the single-issue variety. So, sounds like no big story arc this time around.

Classic AvengersIt’s a good time to be an Avengers fan!

This May we can look forward to a double dose of new Avenger books with some great creative teams behind them. Marvel recently showed off two similar ad campaigns for two not so similar books.

Last week came the announcement that Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr. are teaming up to relaunch the classic Avengers book with issue #1 and this week word surfaced about the second Avengers series called Secret Avengers. The superstar creative team of Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato will be bringing that story to life.

So far the classic Avengers series has five confirmed members on its roster — Hawkeye, Captain America, Spider-Woman, Thor, and Iron Man. (Bendis confirmed on Twitter that this is not the complete roster.)

Both titles launch in May.

It looks like Black Panther and War Machine might be two of the Secret Avengers but I have no idea about the others. Who do you think the Secret Avengers in the teasers are? Check out the covers here below.
