If you are a fan of the John Wick films then this comic was made especially for you! John Wick Volume 1 is a hardcover collection of the first five comics and a bonus gallery of variant covers.
But, most importantly, this is all about the beginning, the why, and the how. John Wick may be a man of extreme focus but he is also a man with a code and that code demands vengeance.
The reader gets flashbacks of John as a child and what drove him to be who he grows up to be. But more importantly, it shows Wick getting into the same trouble that he always does. For as deadly as he may be, he seeks a justice unlike that of other people. His judgement is one of absolute finality. The biggest opportunity in his life, however, is his constant need to indebt himself to more powerful individuals that want to use him for their own means.
This story shows all that and more. In this tale from Greg Pak, John Wick is less sure, less refined, but no less eager to do harm unto others. In fact, this early version of Wick is more brash, more foolhardy, maybe even a bit more angry. But always focused. This is the birth of the Bogeyman, or as the films called him, the Baba Yaga.
This graphic novel was a blast, literally as several things blow up in it. But in all seriousness, the story is worthy of the name in all things. We see Wick introduced to several players as well as the Continental, or at least the El Paso version. Grab this hardcover, folks, it is loads of fun.
