Well, it’s been a while since we’ve seen any real news regarding DC Comics‘ relaunch of all of their comic books, but today a wild video appeared. Popular entertainment website Bleeding Cool has found access to a new video from DC Comics explaining their relaunch strategy to those that may not have heard the news yet that the publishing company is relaunching all of their titles in September. So, in my ongoing coverage, I will attempt to make sense of this promotional video in a little segment I like to call “DC Comics – Relaunch of DOOM!” You can watch the video here below.
The 3 1/2-minute video itself is standard marketing from the company’s top executives including Dan Didio, Jim Lee, Eddie Berganza, Bob Harras, as well as superstar writer Grant Morrison. Morrison though, who is set to pen the upcoming freshly relaunched Action Comics, is the exception. During his segment of the video, he actually connects with comic readers by being truly excited by the chance to write Superman again, as well as telling viewers what is actually great about the character. The look and feel of it is also very much like the special features that have been on each of DC’s features, with animated versions of the conceptual art and covers from the titles set to be released in the Fall.
It’s clear that this video is not intended for those of us who are already aware of DC’s plans for September, so who exactly is this video for? My guess is the audience that buys the company’s DVDs, and watches their programming block on Cartoon Network. Think about it, if DC runs this promo video in the middle of a Young Justice episode, that’s reaching an incredible market that they currently aren’t reaching with their comics advertising (hint: There is no real comic advertising). Also, this is the perfect length for a video to be shown at the beginning of some new announcements at a particular comic convention in July.
Have a look at the video here below, and leave us your thoughts on the DC relaunch in the comments section!
