If you’ve not yet heard about Chronicle, it’s because it’s a movie that has been flying under the radar a bit and only recently have TV spots started showing up more and more often. The movie’s trailer first showed up when Paranormal Activity 3 was released, and it too is presented as “found footage” of three friends who obtain superpowers and go through the ups and downs having such great new abilities.
Twentieth Century Fox is very big on Chronicle, and hopes it will do great things at the box office. So much so that sources close to the studio say that the movie’s director, Josh Trank, is their current top choice to take on rebooting their more tradition superhero franchise, Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
You can check out the trailer for Chronicle below if you’ve not yet seen it.
Whether Trank will end up scoring the job still remains to be seen—though high on him, Fox still wants to see how Chronicle performs when it opens Super Bowl weekend—but they two parties have had multiple meetings and it’s expected that he’ll be formally offered the job soon.
Fantastic Four is one of a few comic book properties that is being given something of an instant reboot (or insta-boot, as only I like to call it). Others include Spider-Man, Daredevil, and most likely Batman after Christopher Nolan’s third and final chapter, The Dark Knight Rises, is released.
How do you think they should approach Fantastic Four this time around?
A Fantastic Four reboot needs a stronger storyline, more of the theme of scientific discovery and exploration that was important in the early Lee/Kirby issues, and they better get Doctor Doom and Galactus right this time!!!
