Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, who is best known for his flamboyant and over the top approach to his guitar playing, which combines elements of classical compositions with a blinding speed and a healthy [unhealthy?] dose of ego which helped made his genre – heavy metal – and him rather legendary in the 1980s, is releasing his autobiography entitled Relentless: The Memoir on May 21, 2013.
The book’s official description reads as follows:
Yngwie Malmsteen’s revolutionary guitar style “” combining elements of classical music with the speed and volume of heavy metal “” made him a staple of the ’80s rock scene. Decades later, he’s still a legend among guitarists, having sold 11 million albums and influenced generations of rockers since. In ‘Relentless,’ Malmsteen shares his personal story, from the moment he burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere in the early ’80s to become a household name in the annals of heavy metal. Along the way, he talks about his first bands, going solo, his songwriting and recording process, and the seedy side of the rock business.
The book comes hot on the heels of unauthorized biography on Malmsteen which was published last October in Sweden called “Sasom I Himmelen, Sa Ock Pa Jorden” which translated into English reads as “As Above, So Below” (available for Kindle and in audiobook format). That book was culminated from over 50 interviews with individuals who were close with the musician, showing Malmsteen warts and all, but ultimately trying to give a three-dimensional portrait of a man who still remains to many as an self-indulgent difficult “genius,” at least in his public persona. That book also had a forward written by the ex-Rainbow and Deep Purple singer Joe Lynn Turner, who has also had stints with Malmsteen as well.
It is unclear what Malmsteen’s thoughts were on that publication, or if it acted as the impetus for him to pen his own story, which more than likely for the man, and his fans, will be the ultimate, definitive story on the his life and times.
The 288-page book is available for pre-order now via Amazon (which has the release date listed there as May 6, 2013).
The first three Yngwie Malmsteen albums are currently on sale right now in AutoRip CD format (which means you get a FREE MP3 download of the album with the purchase of the CD):
