The Bionic Man #17 is a terrific action-adventure comic that totally works. Yes, almost every comic has action, but sometimes it’s hard to pull off. Thanks to the creative team, there are NO problems here.
Aaron Gillespie‘s writing is quickly improving with each issue. I don’t think he’s ever been a bad writer on this title, but some of his previous issues were a little lacking in the action department. That’s not the case here and #17 is pretty much wall to wall action and excitement. It’s got all the hallmarks of The Six Million Dollar Man TV series, just set in modern times and having Steve dealing with real world situations that are going on now. Great stuff!
Over on the art side of things, Ed Tadeo is really doing a decent job. He’s come a long way from his earlier issues of The Bionic Man. As I stated earlier, there’s plenty of action to draw in this book, and he does a very good job of making all the firefights and physical fights look realistic and easy to follow. He’s also got some killer backgrounds in this issue. If I had to critize anything, it would be the way he draws faces. There’s a lot of Liefeld-like lines going on there. But, it never takes anything away from the book.
All in all, another fun issue of this series. It’s got plenty of action, super heroics, intrigue, and is just plain entertaining. Also, it’s actually the start of a new story arc, so if you haven’t picked up this book yet, this issue is a perfect jumping-on point!
