‘Star Wars: Revenge Of The Jedi’ Teaser Trailer Will Make You Feel Really Old Or It Could Hint At Something Much Bigger

Last week we saw the release of the teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The teaser featured zero footage from the film but gave us a slideshow of promotional stills of the cast and concept art from Ralph McQuarrie. It was an interesting look at how the film was marketed in an age without the internet – back then there were no trailers for trailers.
Now the official Star Wars YouTube page has released the teaser trailer for Return of the Jedi, or as it was known by its first title before George Lucas decided to change it: Revenge of the Jedi. You can see the teaser below.
But why are we seeing the teaser trailers being released now? Could these releases hint at a Star Wars announcement? The kind of announcement that everyone has been waiting for? And I don’t mean Star Wars: Episode VII in IMAX 3D, the color of lightsabers, or where they will shoot the film. If we get the kind of news we want, what kind of news could it be? Casting? Title? Release date? Whatever it is, it is interesting to see that these teaser trailers are popping up online today, which also happens to be one week away from the one-year anniversary of Disney purchasing Lucasfilm.
Maybe I could be reading too much into this. While the sudden emergence of these classic teaser trailers is suspect, the only possible thing to celebrate in Lucasfilm history is when Disney bought Lucasfilm on October 30, 2012. The next possible date is when the Star Wars films were released, but all of the Star Wars films were released in May. So if Disney/Lucasfilm wanted to make an announcement, next week would be the most ideal date.
