Marvel officially announced this morning that Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Elizabeth Olsen (Spike Lee’s Oldboy) will join the cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron as the brother-sister duo Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
The actors will star together next in Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla remake, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 16, 2014.
As for Age of Ultron, what remains to be seen is how Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch will be worked into the film and how their back story will be altered/ignored to allow them into the Marvel Universe. In the Marvel comic universe, the characters are both mutants and the children of Magneto. As Fox Studios owns the rights to the X-Men film universe, it will be interesting to see how Joss Whedon, who returns to write and direct this sequel to The Avengers, gets around this.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which reunites the core cast of the original film as well, is set to be released May 1, 2015.
