The captain of a star cruiser is only as good as their crew, and fortunately for Kanan, the captain of the shuttle Ghost in the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels, he has an excellent crew! This week video introductions, which you can watch below, were released for two of those main crew members, Sabine the Mandalorian (that’s right, Mandalorian!) and Zeb, who is a new alien species being introduced to the Star Wars universe.
Sabine, described as a feisty and sassy character, is an expert in weapons and arms, and as the series opens up has recently turned against the Empire to help support the Rebellion. She will sport purple-accented Mandalorian armor, including a helmet reminiscent of the one made legendary by Boba Fett, and will have a penchant for graffiti as a way of expressing herself.
Joel Aron, CG supervisor of lighting and FX, notes:
She’s adding something that we haven’t really seen before in the Star Wars universe. You have a character that is expressively creative through art — whether it’s the color of her hair or what she’s done to her armor.
Hopefully through her character we’ll learn more about Mandalorians in general. You can already see the fan art this character is destined to inspire, coming to a Tumblr feed (hey, did you know we’re on Tumblr!) near you. We’ll see more of Sabine when she makes her action figure debut at the San Diego Comic-Con later this year.
The other character we’re getting a closer look at this week is Zeb, the muscle with brains of the Ghost crew. Zeb is a new alien, and a well-trained fighter as a former member of the honor guard. Executive producer of the series Dave Filoni notes of Zeb:
It’s just going to be exciting to develop him and his bizarre new species, and to explain to the audience where he came from.
Check out the clips below and stay tuned for more Star Wars: Rebels news. The show is set to premiere sometime in Fall 2014.
