The Green Hornet #10, while a really good comic, made me feel a little bad inside. A little broken-hearted. Why? Because it feels like things are wrapping up for this series (it ends with issue #13). But, that aside, this issue is pretty intense.

Mark Waid loves writing The Green Hornet. But, I think, this issue he loved writing the villains just a little bit more. This issue is VERY heavy on the battle between the bad guy “families” while the Hornet and Kato wait at the sidelines for them each to take out each other, then swoop in for the kill. Now, the story is MUCH more complex than that, obviously; there’s some great twists and turns and a FANTASTIC shock ending. All classic Mark Waid. And all VERY entertaining.

Ronilson Freire‘s art can only be described by using one word — LUSH. No, no, I’m not calling him a drunk. I’m saying his art is GORGEOUS!! The DETAIL Ronilson packs into some of the faces (you’ll know which panels I’m talking about) are just fantastic. My pet peeve is artists who skimp on backgrounds and there is NONE of that here, I’m happy to report. And I’m not sure if it’s the line work of the pencils or the coloring, but I swear some of the close-up panels look painted.

It’s also nice to see that Freire’s done his research into what exactly he’s drawing. There’s a lot of vehicles in this issue, and I really didn’t see any mistakes that were made.

This is a great series and I’m sad that it’s winding down, so let’s support it while it’s still around, shall we? You’d do well to pick up not only this issue, but some past ones as well. Hey, how many times has Mark Waid let us down? Yeah, I can’t remember a time either.
