While discussing his upcoming role as Moses in Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, Christian Bale was asked about Ben Affleckbeing cast as Batman for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Though it was known for a while that Bale and Christopher Nolan were to end their run with the Batman franchise after The Dark Knight Rises, the actor made it clear he wasn’t opposed to another movie. There were even rumors that WB was actively pursuing him to star in Justice League. But in the end everyone moved on to other things and Affleck was eventually cast in the role.
Read what Bale had to say about his reaction to Affleck’s casting below.
Speaking to Empire Magazine (via ComicBookMovie), Bale said:
“I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… Let’s do another.’ So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour.
…
But I’m 40. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman…I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, and is currently scheduled for a March 25, 2016 release date.
