The GoD List Banner Comics

Each and every week, I, “Comics suck!” Henchman 21 and “April fools!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of April 1, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Look, I know you might be a little tired from all the April Fool’s Day articles on the web today, but that’s not what we’re doing here right now. No, it’s time to drop some 100% truth with all the great comics that are in stores today. We’ve got tons of books for you to check out this week, with plenty of Dark Horse, some DC, some Oni, and others. So, let’s get to a no malarkey filled edition of The GoD List.

Henchman 21

Blade of the Immortal Volume 31: Final Curtain by Hiroaki Samura

Blade of the Immortal, Volume 31: Final Curtain (Dark Horse Comics – $19.99) Geez, I can remember picking up the first Dark Horse issue of Blade of the Immortal when it was released back in 1996. Blade was one of the first manga series I read and it was one of those series that expanded what I thought comics could be. Hiroaki Samura has always had one of the most unique styles, even when compared to other manga-ka. It has been a long from for, Manji and Rin, the heroes of Blade of the Immortal, and now it is time to see how their quest for revenge comes to an end. This is an end of an era for me.

Demo (Dark Horse Comics – $24.99) This is a new edition of Demo, collecting both volumes of Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan’s modern classic about numerous young adults dealing with various super powers, from the extra ordinary to the mundane to the creepy. Demo is the book that put both Wood and Cloonan on many peoples map and it remains an excellent look at many common comic book tropes. It also feature’s fantastic art from Cloonan, who mixes up her style from issue to issue in interesting ways. If you’ve never read Demo before, you’re in for a treat.

Empowered Unchained, Volume 1 (Dark Horse Comics – $19.99) Okay, one more Dark Horse book this week. I can’t help it if they have a lot of great books out this week. Empowered Unchained collects the various Empowered one-shots from writer Adam Warren with art by Warren himself, as well as Takeshi Miyazawa, Brandon Graham, and others. It’s a good introduction to Warren’s crazy world of superheroes, showing a variety of the ancillary characters but also giving a good grounding for the main characters. Empowered is an extremely fun series with a lot of fantastic art and this particular volume has a lot of different styles in to appeal to everyone.

Convergence #0 (DC Comics – $4.99) If you still long for the glory days of the pre-New 52 DC universe, then Convergence is the story for you. For the next two months, DC is going back to the days of the infinite multiverse, and they’re bringing back a lot of fan favorite versions of characters. As DC is saying about this; “Every story matters” and that is a sentiment I can get behind. My fear though is that I will need to have read DC’s World’s End and Superman: Doomed series in order to understand what’s going on here, but hopefully I can just get into the story with this issue.

Rick and Morty #1 (Oni Press – $3.99) Rick and Morty seems an odd television series to bring to comic since the adult swim series doesn’t have that many episodes, but here we are, and that’s not a bad thing because the few episode out there are hilarious, and this series will be a good holdover till season 2 begins. Rick & Morty is all about super scientist Rick Sanchez and the mad adventures he takes with his grandson Morty. Rick is generally trying to use his scientific acumen to either get rich or just get out of a mess that he has caused, and Morty is just trying to not get killed while just being a below average student. If writer Zac Gorman can capture the spirit of the show, we should be in for a hilarious comic.

Empress Eve

Hoax Hunters 2015 #1 (of 5) Heavy Metal Magazine

Hoax Hunters 2015 #1 (of 5) (Heavy Metal Magazine – $3.50) Legendary magazine publication Heavy Metal has launched its first-ever monthly comic book series with Hoax Hunters #1, the debut of an all-new 5-issue miniseries of the former Image Comic. Nope, it’s not a joke, it’s for real!!! Definitely a must-have.

Here’s some other quick picks:
Puppet Master #1
Empire Uprising #1
IXth Generation #3
The Michael Moorcock Library: Elric Of Melnibone
