One of the many, many things I love about Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the way they make their silly, incredibly funny, and often immature antics into a 99% believable (albeit short) police procedural. Okay, so I’m not an expert on how detectives solve crimes. I’m sure it’s not as entertaining as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or even Law & Order. But despite the ridiculousness wrapped in puns wrapped in awesomeness, the crew at 99 still solve cases, and show the evidence used. The way the characters play off each other is perfect chemistry. Tonight’s episode of “Boyle’s Hunch” highlights the buddy cop dynamic of Peralta and Boyle (Andy Samberg and Joe Lo Truglio).
Spoilers below.
The episode starts with three words: Clever tarantula names. Why tarantulas? Why not?
Examples? Mrs. Doubtspider aka Joe Spiden aka… watch the episode. There’s some more! Cover pic is a spoiler. Sorry, it was too good.
The main storyline of the episode is Boyle’s love life. Charles Boyle has always been unlucky in love. He is such a quirk, he needs a quirk to complete his life. He finally finds the girl, but there’s a serious catch – a catch with handcuffs. It’s up to Boyle and Peralta to save the day and the girl, Genevieve (perfect 99 fit – guest star Rajskub). The investigation leads them to go undercover as people who would go to art galleries. How do you think that ended?
A delightful moment in the episode is when Peralta really tries hard not to join Boyle in a little song, but can’t.
The other two stories involve Rosa and Terry (Stephanie Beatriz and Terry Crews) investigationg Hitchcock and Scully (Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller), for stealing Rosa’s ice cream, while Holt convinces Santiago to be the police poster child for positive PR, against Gina’s (Chelsea Peretti) advice.
So much story in so little time!
But seriously, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I need a few things. I need Holt and Gina back at the 99. The precinct is missing an integral part of its soul. And I need Gina to have more zingers. I know I ask for more Gina every week, but seriously… do I need to start a petition?
