Firewatch Game Screenshot

There’s a game on the way that I’m super excited about, and it’s titled Firewatch. It’s been around for a little while now, but unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to gush about it here on Geeks of Doom yet.

Thankfully a brand new demo video has been released showing off 17 new minutes of gameplay action—and better yet, the footage is a continuation of the previous 17-minute gameplay demo that initially got me excited to play it. So instead of sharing only the new footage, you can read more about the game and find trailers and both 17-minute demo videos below for lots and lots and lots of gameplay goodness if you’ve not yet seen anything related to this one before.

INFO:

Firewatch is a mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio.

In Firewatch you play as a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor, a woman named Delilah, is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio “” and is your only contact with the world you’ve left behind.

But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the world, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

I’m sure there’s plenty still hiding below the surface of this game that we’ve not yet seen, but some might assume based on what we have seen so far that it’s what the kids these days call a “walking simulator.” Truth is, I love walking simulators. There, I said it. I don’t need to constantly be fighting and killing 2,500 things in a game to be satisfied. Is that fun in other games? Sometimes, yes it is. But if a game consists mainly of walking but still offers a great story, great characters, problems to solve, and so on, I can absolutely get excited about that too.

Firewatch appears to have all of this going, with the interactions, dialogue options, and voice acting really standing out. I can’t wait to dive into this little world and live the life of fire lookout for a bit.

For anyone as excited as me to play, Firewatch will be available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4 on February 9th.
