“There are certain rules one must abide by in order to create a successful sequel. Number 1: The body count is always bigger. Number 2: The death scenes are always much more elaborate – more blood, more gore – *carnage candy*. And number 3: Never, ever, under any circumstances assume the killer is dead.”
Randy (Jamie Kennedy), Scream 2, 1997
“Welcome back horror fans…” the show’s “Randy” Noah (John Karna) says to open the trailer to season 2 of MTV’s Scream based on the mid 90s films of the late great Wes Craven. Emma (Willa Fitzgerald), fresh off killing the masked murderer and her demented half sister Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blaire), escaped to a rehab to retreat mentally and physically from the events of season 1. She’s back, and of course her return is marked by more phone calls and a new killer in town.
Check out the season 2 trailer below.
Based on the 90-second trailer, all of Randy’s rules are being strictly adhered to, with bloody dream sequences, loads of entrails, and plenty of sharp toys including knives, axes, and scythes… EVERY horror story needs a SCYTHE! And with all of Emma’s surviving friends back for season 2, there are just too many potential victims to count including Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) who was kinda sorta alluded to as a secondary killer in the season 1 finale, handsome boyfriend Kieran (Amadeus Serafini), and surprise season 1 survivors Brooke (Carlson Young) and Jake (Tom Maden). Hopefully Noah’s fate doesn’t match Randy’s from Scream 2… spoiler alert, Randy gets killed… it was 19 years ago, I still haven’t gotten over it.
The eerie music in the trailer just helps to escalate my excitement. We also find out there’s a continuation to the Brandon James story, as his brother Troy is mentioned. Will he be the main subject here? Will a former ally become a killer? Is Emma going crazy? Who will survive and what will be left of them?
“The thing about the truth is, it’s hard to pin down. You hope it’s one thing but deep down, you know it’s something else.” – Noah
MTV’s Scream season 2 begins Monday, May 30th at 11:00pm EST.
