I’m a huge book dork, it’s a fact that I’ve learned to live with over the years. And one of the greatest series of my youth was the tale of the boy Garion and his quest to find the Orb of Aldur. Yes, my friends, I speak of “The Belgariad” series. Consisting of five books, it details the trials and growth of our budding young hero and his companions as they seek this holy relic that will balance the scales between good and evil. These days, the writing level would most likely be considered young adult but this story transcends such petty things. It inspires and teaches, allowing the reader to watch as our young boy grows into more than a man, he becomes a hero.
I’ve long wished this series would be given the Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones treatment, that someone would create a visual representation worthy of this epic tale. But alas, it has yet to happen. But my life was improved ever so slightly by this fan-made trailer, which you can watch below. Made from pieces of other films and shows, it is perhaps the best representation I have seen to date. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did/do. With all of the original content coming out on Netflix, do you think they could find the time to maybe just make me a little thirteen episode season for each book? I’d really appreciate it, if so.
The series was written by David Eddings, though his wife Leigh Eddings collaborated with him on most of his books over the years. Unfortunately, we have lost them both in the last decade, Eddings passed away in 2009, two years after his wife. And while the characters in “The Belgariad” saw life in a dozen different books, the original five are by far my favorites. I carry such a torch for this series that I give the first book, Pawn of Prophecy, away regularly as a gift. So, what do you say? Should we start a petition or an Indiegogo campaign?
I’ll leave it in your hands, but don’t decide until after you see the awesome video below.
