The latest release in the Call of Duty series, titled Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, was on hand at E3 2016 to show off its “Ship Assault” campaign gameplay demo.
The demo shows the player jumping into their ship for a little space dogfighting before jumping out to space assault a much bigger ship while getting around using a space grappling hook. Welcome to Space Call of Duty! All of this probably sounds completely ridiculous to you, and it is. But the thing is…it actually looks kinda fun.
Now, if you look at the video on the Call of Duty or PlayStation YouTube pages, you’ll see an insane amount of dislikes going on. Like Jem and the Holograms-level dislike. Part of this is that there’s some who will hate on these games no matter what, and another part is that a whole lot of CoD fans are seeing Battlefieldgo back to World War I and are sick of the futuristic road the Call of Duty franchise has been traveling lately, which I totally get. It’s one of the reasons I personally haven’t been interested in these games, including this one, for quite a while.
That said, I can admit to something I wasn’t interested in looking more fun than expected and am open to being pleasantly surprised. Will Space Call of…err Infinite Warfare, absurd as it looks, actually be good? I have absolutely no idea. But I thought the movie Lockout (Space Jail!) was going to be a trainwreck and that ended up being far more entertaining than it had any business being, so I’m at least up for seeing more gameplay from this in the future.
The Standard Edition and Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare can be pre-ordered now. The Legacy Edition comes with the also announced remaster of arguably the best CoD game, Modern Warfare.
Get your first look at in-depth Call of Duty®: Infinite Warfare Campaign gameplay as Reyes and his crew infiltrate and take down an enemy SetDef destroyer. Launching from the UNSA Retribution, the SCAR team must engage in intense Jackal dogfighting and close-quarters combat through zero-g to accomplish a coordinated assault with the UNSA Tigris. Welcome to the deadly world of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Stay tuned at the end for a small taste for more Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® Remastered.
