When The Magicians returns January 25th, our gang will be ruling a dying kingdom, as they fight to save magic. Meanwhile, The Beast (Charles Mesure) is out and about and enjoying himself in season 2, after spending most of season 1 as just a voice. We also get to meet The White Lady (Emma Dumont), a creature of Fillory who runs into Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph).

Dumont’s White Lady is part woman, part doe – “If you catch the white lady she will grant you a wish.” In the clip, we see that Quentin has captured her. “What else could you possibly want?” What will he wish for? Sanity? World Peace? We get an inside look at the “magical” Jason Ward, SPFX makeup coordinator, who created her look, which takes 8-hours to apply.

Mesure’s Beast is sort of charming because Mesure is. Don’t villains always have pretty smiles (I’m looking at you Negan)? He is the “most powerful magician in Fillory,” aided by the fact that he has 12 fingers. Magic is all about the fingers, right? He and Julia are in a partnership to kill Reynard.

Oh Julia. She’s always getting stuck on the dark side, right? She is Anakin to Beast’s Emperor.

The Magicians season 2 premieres Wednesday, January 25th on SyFy.

Synopsis:

Heading into Season 2, this group of unlikely heroes have been thrust into even more dangerous and unfamiliar territory, and must draw upon their novice skills to defeat a threat that could destroy the magical world itself. Driven by power, revenge and survival, they learn that those who entered the hauntingly beautiful world of Fillory will never be the same as those who leave. Magic is dying. With our characters transported to the magical kingdom of Fillory – and named Kings and Queens of the land to boot – can they save magic? Oh, and there’s still the Beast to deal with, don’t forget. Meanwhile, Julia is on a no-holds-barred revenge quest against the evil God that attacked her.
