Rocky once famously ran through the city of Brotherly Love training for the fight of his life. This coming weekend the geeks will be running to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center for the Great Philadelphia Comic Con. Beginning Friday afternoon, April 12th at 1:00 PM, the convention is three days of celebrating comics and pop-culture for fans of all ages. The Con’s motto is “Get UR Geek On!” and whether you are into comics, movies, anime, cosplay, or all of the above, you can bet you’ll find something to entertain you in Philly besides a good cheesesteak.
The guest list for this weekend is stacked and full of reunions and gatherings from some of sci-fi’s most famous series. SYFY’s The Expanse has multiple panels throughout the weekend featuring five cast members from the series. Saturday opens with a bang as the stars of Battlestar Galactica take the stage, including Edward James Olmos and Michael Hogan. Later on Saturday will feature panels with rock star and pop culture icon Alice Cooper (we’re not worthy), as well as Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and AMC’s Into the Badlands. You can’t have sci-fi discussions without some Trekkies and Sunday will feature a Deep Space Nine panel with Worf himself, Michael Dorn. And for the gamers out there, the voice talent of one of the most popular games in recent memory, Red Dead Redemption, will be there.
That doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of the stacked lineup. They have a full lineup of free kids-centered activities that will allow your child to fully explore their geek creativity. For the grown-up children at heart, they have an adult cosplay contest, and for the gamers, there are weekend tournaments in Dragonball Fighter Z, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.
The Great Philadelphia Comic Con is this Friday – Sunday, April 12th – 14th at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, located at 100 Station Avenue, Oaks, PA, 19460. Tickets, pre-sale photo ops, and the entire convention schedule are available on their website. Be there and “Get Ur Geek On.”
