Joe Carnahan Is Also Writing An ‘X-Force’ Script
  |  @   |

The success of Deadpool proved that R-rated comic book movies could work. So in light of its success, Fox is following it up with Logan and a Deadpool sequel. The former is set to hit theaters next week, while the latter is still in the early stages of writing.

But one film Ryan Reynolds would very much like to see happen is X-Force. The actor has spoken about his interest in bringing the title to the big screen in the past. Now it’s being reported that Joe Carnahan is writing the script, so it looks like we are that much closer to it being a reality. More on the story below.

Collider was the first to break the news. During their exclusive interview, in which they talked about the reimagining of The Raid, Carnahan confirmed that he was writing an adaptation of X-Force. This only adds to his current workload as the filmmaker is attached to direct Bad Boys For Life, the third installment of the Bad Boys film franchise, The Raid, and penning the script for Shawn Levy’s Uncharted movie.

This is the only bit of information that is available at the moment. There is no word if Archangel, Deadpool, Wolverine, or Psylocke will be a part of the mutant black-ops group. While it’s unlikely Hugh Jackman would return to reprise his role, Cable and Domino, who are prominent members of X-Force, are set to appear in Deadpool 2. But that is just my speculation.

Carnahan writing the X-Force script is perfect, as he has a great handle on the tone for action films. Check out The Grey or Smokin’ Aces if you need convincing.

As of right now, no one is attached to direct. If Fox likes what they are reading, I’d imagine that they would offer Carnahan the job. However, the guy has a lot on his plate, and if the studio put the film on the fast track to production, it’s unlikely Carnahan could take the job. But if anyone is going to direct an X-Force, it should be Carnahan.

So while X-Men: Apocalypse failed to live up to expectations, Fox still has New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and X-Men: Supernova to expand the universe and entertain its fans. Not only that, but there’s also the TV side of things. Legion is off to a great start, and Matt Nix’s untitled X-Men series sounds very promising.

Of course, we will keep you up to date on the progress of those films.
