Once, there were 150 different kinds of Pokémon. But that was a long time ago. Now there are over 807 kinds of Pokémon. And though it may be difficult to cram all of them in one film, Detective Pikachu will bring out the best, overlooked, and your favorites.
Warner Bros. has just released a new video showing off some of these Pokémon that range from Charizard, the Flame Pokémon; and Jigglypuff, the Balloon Pokémon; to Pancham, the Playful Pokémon; and Aipom, the Long Arm Pokémon. And they are introducing us to them in the most adorable and cutest way possible. A casting video. Check it out below.
It’s always nice to see these sorts of videos as audiences and fans get to see what some of the animators have been working on in order to make the Pokémon look and feel real. And doing it in the style of a casting video where they look like they are actually auditioning for a part, makes it even more hilarious.
Additionally, there is a small clip at the end that makes a joke about Psyduck, the duck with a dim look on its face who suffers from having terrible headaches. Of course, these headaches are actually just psychic energy building up and can release a devastating attack when he finds relief.
For those who are true fans of Pokémon, there’s a special opening weekend offer detailed in the press release:
Through this first weekend and while supplies last, each guest will receive an exciting two-card pack from the new Pokémon TCG: Detective Pikachu series of collectible trading cards from The Pokémon Company International. One card will be randomly selected from the series currently available at retail locations and featuring select Pokémon in their CGI likeness as seen in the movie. The second is guaranteed to be a limited-edition Detective Pikachu card available to those early-bird fans who are among the very first to catch this first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure on the big screen.
Tickets for the highly anticipated “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” go on sale nationwide today, April 10, at 9:00 AM PDT, although advance purchase does not guarantee the Pikachu card bonus, which is based on theatre attendance and supply.
Starring in the film is Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ken Watanabe, with Ryan Reynolds providing the voice of the electric wise-cracking titular character.
