IO-Interactive's Hitman

All has looked very promising when it comes to Hitman, the next entry in hit video game series following the silent assassin Agent 47.

We’ve already seen cinematic and gameplay trailers, as well as an impressive first 15-minute gameplay demo, but now a bit of a speedbump has been encountered. Developer Io-Interactive has announced that the game has been delayed from its original December of this year release, and pushed back a few months to March of 2016.

You can read what they had to say, and as a bonus, see an infographic comparing the largest level of the last game in the franchise, Hitman: Absolution to one of the levels in the new game below.

Hitman Game

Over the weekend during PAX Prime the first gameplay demo for the next game in the Hitman franchise, simply titled Hitman, was shared publicly after first being shown at Gamescom. We saw an announcement trailer and gameplay trailer come out of E3 2015 a couple of months back.

This first demo is set at a fancy fashion show, and explores the many options players will have in accomplishing their objectives and taking out their target, including some of the weapons, disguises, and various things found in the environment you can sabotage.

You can read more about the game and check out the 15-minute gameplay demo below.

IO Interactive's Hitman

The folks over at Io-Interactive are doing things a little differently with the upcoming next game in the popular Hitman franchise, which will be exciting to some and frustrating to others.

You’ll still play as the legendary assassin Agent 47, and you’ll have a collection of contracts to complete as usual. The game will offer numerous ways for you to get the job done, some blunt and bloody and straight forward, while others much more subtle and unnoticed. One of the cool features of the previous game in the franchise, Hitman: Absolution, was the way they integrated online play. You could replay various missions from the game in an attempt to better your high score, and you could complete those missions a specific way and challenge others to replicate your methods to see if they could do it better. The next game, simply titled Hitman, will expand on this.

You can learn more and watch the first cinematic trailer (which is pretty phenomenal, by the way) and gameplay preview below.

Hitman: Sniper

While we anxiously await more information and, better yet, a trailer or footage showing off the next installment in the Hitman video game series (perhaps in a little over a week at E3?), the franchise has been setting up shop in the realms of mobile gaming.

They already have the popular Hitman GO, and now Square Enix has officially launched Hitman: Sniper. The game is basically the same as the Hitman: Absolution pre-order bonus game Hitman: Sniper Challenge, which I was able to review back in 2012 and even said I’d love to see a similar game with multiple levels released on Xbox Live and/or the PlayStation Network. While we do not yet have such a game available on Xbox Live or the PS Network, that game is available on your phones and tablets (though I still want it somewhere I can use a controller—let’s make it happen!).

You can read more information about the game and check out the launch trailer below.

Hitman Agent 47 Image

If one of the games you’re hoping to see revealed at the upcoming E3 convention is the next entry in developer Io-Interactive and publisher Square Enix’s Hitman franchise, that’s sadly not going to happen.

Since revealing in an open letter that they were in fact working on a next-gen follow-up to the excellent Hitman: Absolution, Io has continued to craft away. They’re not, however, at a place where they’re ready to start showing off their work yet, which is totally understandable. Thankfully they wanted to at least offer a little something to hold fans over, releasing the first bit of concept art for the game (which looks closer to a screenshot) and some information related to the area seen in the image that will give you an idea of just how big the next game will be.

You can read what they had to say and see the first peek at the currently untitled next Hitman game below.
