AMC
Air Date: Sunday, October 4, 2015, 9pm Tonight saw the end of Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead, AMC’s prequel series that was supposed to show us the start of the zombie apocalypse that resulted in the events of The Walking Dead. This prequel spin-off was only six episodes, and the first four episodes alone had a lot of set-up, where people were becoming infected and it was assumed at first to be the flu. That supposed illness turned into the infected dying, and then coming back to “life” somewhat, attacking the first responders there to help them. But, even when witnessing these unbelievable altercation, people found it difficult to comprehend that something was truly wrong here and most ignored the warning signs that things were going to get worse. Last week’s episode, 1.5 “Cobalt,” finally saw some action, with a lot of revelations, and was the most like its parent show. The season finale (Episode 1.5 “The Good Man”), on the other hand, was a lot less shocking, and pretty predictable. Spoilers…

Air Date: Sunday, September 27, 2015, 9pm Here we are at the penultimate episode of AMC’s very short first season of Fear the Walking Dead and finally we’re getting some real information. One vital piece of information revealed was the meaning of codeword “Cobalt,” the episode title, which was also the codename for this Walking Dead prequel. But, we’ll get back to that in a minute. Spoilers… In the previous four episodes, we mostly dealt with guidance counselor Madison (Kim Dickens), her druggie son, Nick (Frank Dillane), her annoying daughter Alicia, (Alycia Debnam Carey), and her do-gooder naive fiance Travis (Cliff Curtis). They saw events unfold that brought about chaos to the streets of Los Angeles, where the seemingly dead were walking, and back home, they witnessed their infected neighbors “turn” into the undead. It took this group a while to come to terms with the fact that something was truly wrong and that they needed to get out of town.

| ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Episode 1.4 Most Talked About SceneWarning: Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead Episode 1.4. In my review of Fear the Walking Dead Episode 1.4, “Not Fade Away,” I refer to a telling scene where Daniel relays to Madison a story from his childhood. The take away from the tale is that Daniel had realized that his father was a fool. This here should be a tip that not only is Madison’s fiance Travis a fool to trust what the government is saying to them, but he’s just a fool in general. During this exchange, Madison admits to going beyond the fence outside the safe zone, and what she discovers in the abandoned neighborhood is upsetting, and raises even more questions. Watch the scene here in the video below.

AMC
Air Date: Sunday, September 20, 2015, 9pm Fear the Walking Dead portrays the events leading up to the zombie plague that wiped out most of humanity, as seen on AMC’s The Walking Dead. So far, it’s been three episodes of the people of Los Angeles behaving strangely, getting sick, and not staying dead. Chaos, rioting, and looting ensued, while most citizens didn’t have a clue what was really going on, and, more importantly, the horror that was to come. High school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens), her son, Nick (Frank Dillane), daughter Alicia, (Alycia Debnam Carey), and fiance Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have all seen firsthand what happens after someone is infected. Last we saw our main characters, they were making a plan to get out of the city and hide out in the desert for safety for the time being. But, then the National Guard showed up, and they were corralled back into their home for the foreseeable future. In Episode 4, “Not Fade Away,” it’s been 9 days since Madison’s neighborhood has been overtaken by the National Guard, who have fenced in and quarantined the residents, and instituted a curfew as well as other rules. The authorities say the neighborhood is 1 of 12 safe zones south of the San Gabriel area, and that everything else outside is dead and gone. Travis’s son, Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie), doesn’t believe everything the survivors are being told, especially since he saw a flashing light outside the fence. Madison watches Chris’s video of what he saw and she sees it too, but for some reason, Travis thinks it’s just his son’s vivid imagination.
