Drew Barrymore

Although 2012 is the year that the world comes to an end, studios are still planning for films to be released many years after. It’s always good to have a back-up plan, you know, just in case the apocalypse doesn’t happen. Joking aside, Warner Bros. would like to get into the world-ending business by giving Drew Barrymore the job of directing a film simply titled The End.

The Hollywood Reporter says the film will focus on how several people spend their last day on Earth. But rather than take a comedic approach like Seeking A Friend for the End of The World and Edgar Wright’s upcoming World’s End or an action approach like Roland Emmerich’s 2012, The End will be “uplifting and humanistic rather than a downer, a meditation not on death but on life.” Characters in the film will range from “a sixtysomething radio personality in London intent on broadcasting until the end, a father trying to make it through the chaos in Tokyo to reach his wife and baby and a teenage couple in the American Midwest being pulled in different directions by their families.”

Lost Finale

It’s hard for me to even explain the emotions that I and many others experienced over the course of this final season of LOST. I did my very best to encapsulate these emotions and opinions into our discussion of the last episode ever, “The End,” but when the time came, I had no idea what to say, and have been literally thinking about it non-stop ever since that final image rolled across our eyes.

At that very moment — after those final, impactful story seeds were implanted into our fertile and eager brains — I have to admit: I wasn’t happy; I was confused and unsure of what I had witnessed. I refused to react with the vicious tenacity that most seemed to be doing (whether in praise or slander), and instead chose to wait; I chose to let those seeds rest and grow overnight and to see what things felt like today. Every second of the remainder of my evening up until my crossover into sleep was spent pondering, and when I awoke, confusion was still the dominant emotion.

But thanks to the endless web of networks that exists on Twitter, I was pointed in a few directions that promised perspective and perhaps even closure. I found myself reading a few different in-depth pieces, which took me in, sat me down with a nice cup of tea, and shared their thoughts. It is in these places where I’ve realized that I am happy with how Lost ended, and it feels really good.

Click over for much more, including a supposed explanation from someone from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot. As always, be warned: spoilers are in full effect.

Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof

An interesting new event has been discovered, and Lost fans will be excited to learn more about it. A movie theater in Michigan called Celebration Cinemas has posted information on something being called Behind the Scenes of Lost.

As it turns out, this is being put on by The New York Times’ TimesTalks, and will take place at TheTimesCenter in New York City on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 8:00PM. On this evening, Lost‘s two most recognized writers and producers, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, will be talking with the Times’ Lorne Manly and sharing their stories about the show, and how difficult it was to achieve their greatest challenge: a perfect series finale that leaves their army of fans satisfied.

Throughout the night, clips will be shows, including a one-minute sneak peak at the final episode that will air three days later. And at the end, a live Q&A will take place allowing fans in the audience and via text message to ask questions.
