Transformers 2: Who Is The Fallen And Why Do They Want Revenge?
space
MajorJJH   |

TransformersOver the past week there has been a lot of Transformers 2 news, rumors, and photos. We’ve been hesitant to share them all with you, because in some cases they are simply random shots of some obscure aspect of the shoot occurring at Bethlehem Steel, where Michael Bay is, not unsurprisingly, blowing shit up.

However, through the random shots of new vehicles and running Asians (the scenes shot are supposed to take place in a fictional Chinese city), there has been speculation as to who the Fallen is in the full title Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen, and just why does he/she want revenge?

All the way back on Friday (it seems so long ago), Latino Review posted an email from a fan who had looked into the Transformers log of “¦ well, Transformers, and found that there was in fact a character known as The Fallen. So, here’s Geeks of Doom’s look at who The Fallen is and why they want revenge.

First of all, let’s look at the character that people have been talking about, known only as The Fallen. He was one of the 13 original Transformers created by Primus, to do battle against his “eternal nemesis” Unicron (they had the most awesome names). However, one of the 13 turned against his siblings and his creator, and betrayed them all. His original name is lost, but he was known as The Fallen.

This Transformer became obsessed with the darker side of things, and turned against Primus and bowed to Unicron. Affter the first battle between Unicron and Primus, the Fallen was sealed into an extradimensional limbo along with Unicron.

Of course, later, he managed to get out, but that isn’t really the point of all of this.

Now do I think that this story is going to be replayed word for word in Transformers 2? Looking at the last movie, I would suggest definitely not. However, here’s how I imagine it will play out: They’ve chosen a name like Revenge of the Fallen to follow after the death of at least one of the Transformers from the first movie, whether that be Jazz or Megatron. I’m betting it’s the latter one, and that they will merge Megatron with the story of The Fallen and then introduce the aspect of the god-like beings that created them — Unicron and Primus — through this revised story.

It allows for a measure of Transformers history to be kept, while bringing it in line with what Michael Bay is doing.

The obsessed die-hard fans will hate it, the rest of us, will probably enjoy it. Either way, I wouldn’t take much of anything for granted, considering that last year Michael Bay said that they would be releasing a whole heap of fake information to keep everybody busy and away from the real plot. We’ll see!

  1. I can’t wait for this. I personally loved the first one. Although I am by no means a die hard fan.

  2. I’m assuming that this should all end up in Transformers 3 with Unicron. I’m not against the idea, but I’m sure Bay will blow him up because who can resists a planet sized explosion.

Dammit, now I have to go watch Transformers the Movie again. Yeah, its animated, but no LeBueff!!!!

  5. “Michael Bay said that they would be releasing a whole heap of fake information to keep everybody busy and away from the real plot”

This new Michael Bay film has a plot? Or is he just going to pretend his entire plot is not based on ‘blowing shit up’

  6. Another transformers? I think a bad idea. Transformers the movie was like an old school throw back which touched the sentimental parts of 20 and up’s everywhere. The movie was awesome, but i think it did especially well because of the throwback flavor.

  7. Has anyone thought of the possibility that “The Fallen” in the title just refers to the Decepticons as a whole?

    Comment by Gísli — June 10, 2008 @ 9:35 am

  8. Seems rather obvious to me… lets not forget, this IS a michael bay movie.

Forget Unicron and the character ‘The fallen’, there’s too much story to shoe horn in there and no-one is going to care but the most ardent of TF fans.

Prime stated Megatron corrupted a number of transformers to his cause in the first movie, that seems a far more likely candidate for the title of ‘The fallen’.

So we have the fallen coming to Earth looking for revenge for the death of Megatron.

Add into that we already know we have JetFire in the cast list, a character known for being a Decepticon who converts to an Autobot and the theme seems to fit. With Megatron gone, the autobots and humans manage to convince JetFire of the folly of Megatron’s methods, while the rest of the fallen blindly enact their revenge upon an innocent planet?

  10. “Before time began, there was… the Cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life. That is how our race was born.”

I like where you are going, but it seems they already have a maker in the all spark.

  11. Movie titles are constantly in flux and I don’t think we should hold this one as fast and true. While there is a story dealing with the Fallen character in the Transformers comic books, I just don’t think the character has enough equity to base an entire movie out of.

I would speculate that the the “Fallen” character in the next movie is a reborn Megatron. In every iteration of the Transformers, Megatron ultimately is defeated and reborn as Galvatron. That would make more sense to me.

It would also be bad-ass to see some of the combiners this time around as well or Omega Supreme.

  15. Here is what I think they should do with the Fallen. In most of what I looked up, the character “Fallen” will be in the movie. Megatron will be back but as a tank and will be refived by the autobots to help in defeating Fallen.

The back story of the Fallen is what I think they should to with it. Unicron was one of the creations made by the Allspark. It sensed that Unicron wanted more power from it and so it left and later landed on Cybertron. Unicron became weaker and started searching for the Allspark eating planets along to way to keep his power up. When he came close to Cybertron, the Cybertronians started to fight with Unicron. At this time Megatron is still a good guy and Fallen is one of the first 13 cybertronians created by the Allspark. Unicron convinced Fallen to side with him with promises of greater power than he can imagine. Fallen sided with Unicron, but in the end Unicron is destroyed ( like in the cartoon movie staring Rodimus Prime) and Fallen was defeated by the 12. They banished Fallen, and the 12 left because they feared the power that they held since they were the first created and were more powerful than the other Cybertronians. This is when Megatron opens his eyes and can see just how more powerful the Allspark really is. That is when he starts turning evil.

That is how I think they should do it.

  16. Probably… your speculations are right. i wont argue. however, storyline, scripts and the like are substantial basis we need to somehow figure out what is really behind the character “the Fallen.” yet, these materials are likely to be edited to fit Bay’s perspective of an exciting revolution of characters…

but my mind says, the character labled as the Fallen isn’t actually or may eventually be megatron..at some point, i thought of the idea of Bay creating a character apart from megatron w/c will play the role of the Fallen and megatron squeezing it’s line thru the story as a buddy of this new character… and maybe, just maybe… the autobots and decepticons will battle against a desperate chance of to whom will this Fallen takes side after all….

    my kind of story….tnx!!!

  17. What with all the pictures surfacing of the SR-71/Jetfire shoot, isn’t it possible that “The Fallen” refers to him? The plot of the first cartoon episode featuring Jetfire involved him starting life as a Decepticon and his friendship with Starscream before ‘falling’ to Earth and his subsequent amnesia which lead to his betrayal of the Decepticons. Essentially, he takes revenge on them for trying to kill him for being a peace keeper and Autobot sympathizer. That said, it’s probably more likely that Megatron – having fallen into the ocean – takes revenge in this second installment a la Darth Vader… Can’t wait to see!

  18. .. maybe.. but jetfire’s cpabilities levels with the same strenght and power of the normal bots…in that case, my opinion to that is, he, jetfire, would be emerging in the same path in the picture as the other bots will do. jetfire’s strenght, though his strat. and combat style is one of the exceptional skills in the story, still wouldn’t be enough to stir a whole new picture in Bay’s story to tell… however, jetfire’s plot isn’t impossible to happen… he has a story, a background that pertains to the title line “the fallen.” who knows…?

like you… can’t wait too watch the movie….

  19. this movie will rock, i have the full story.

starscream returns to cybertron where he locates a new decepticon army but is forced to sacrifice himself for the revival of the once though dead “fallen”, after the fallen is revived he takes his army of decepticons to earth where they locate ratchet (an autobot) they destroy him leaving nothing but burnt metal, prime, bumblebee and witwicky arrive to discover the twisted and magled frame of ratchet and prime reveals that he needs help once more from “an old friend”, they make there way to the burial site of megatron and rise his body from the deep grave, they take him to an army facility where he is revived, prime warns him that cybertron’s worst nightmare has returned from the grave and intends on destroying the world and everything in it, but megatron is so badly damaged he needs re-construction, prime and the remaining autobots find a tank abandoned and decide to re-build megatron.

    thats all i’m saying

  20. I agree with you MajorJJH!

I have been an advid Transformers Fan for over 20 Years and after the release of the first film, Transformers, I do agree that not everything we know from the Cartoons and Comic Books will come into play in the next film ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’ word for word, comic for comic.

Michael Bay LOVES to mix it up, and I think since they are just about finished with filming, that they HAD a good time working on the script. There’s probably NO-DOUBT that they did do some improvesation during the filming of ‘Revenge’ as well.

I don’t believe they will strike a cord with Unicron or Primus for either of the future Transformers sequels and my best bet is that the largest thing that they will surprisingly use is Devestator. Even though they WILL have to change the name due to the use of Devstator in the first film.

Jazz is most likely gone for good, and Megatron will probably be this key-character in this film known as ‘The Fallen.’ There is no doubt that Cypertron is non-existant. It was distroyed as the Autobots and Decepticons battled on their home planet for the the protection of the ALL-SPARK; None-The-Less, Megatron will return, maybe not as the Alien-like Jet we saw in the first film but, maybe as something reformed, or redesigned.
It will be a battle between the Good Bots and the Bad Bots and we will see new Bots, both good and bad. Again, Michael Bay will spare no expense with the developement of this movie and will fire on all cylinders. Make no mistake about it, Michael Bay will disappoint many as well as please many fans all at the same time.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be something to look forward to in 2009.

  21. Every idiot knows that megatron returns, but nobody knows. My theory is that ‘The Fallen’ is located in the ocean and absorbs megatron, and then turns him into the bad-ass we know and love,Galvatron!’The Fallen’ rises out the ocean, and take a trip to see the monuments that the early cybertronians built-the pyramids. (put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!)

  23. I heard Bay isn’t making 3….Why I don’t know…Rumor I hope. Or maybe someone else can do it better. I guess Dino bots would ruin the plot from here. I always thought Black Widow would be a nice fit cuz she is a female bot, a Spider and a manipulator to the other male bots: Like taking sides with the most evil/powerful like in the 3d cartoon beastwars. And Soundwave has to be a plot liner or Bigger Villian than known. He is after all a fan fav like Joker in his villians Chair. Just glad he isn’t a boombox or cd player. Oh and I was hoping they would combined G.I Joe with Transformers 3…But until I saw what they did to that movie coming soon:( What a shame

  24. I JUST saw a new sneak viewing of the Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen trailer, and its neat. Sam goes to college, AND, of course, Megatron is brought back to life. AND, UNICRON! Sam goes nuts, starts drawing the symbols like his grandpa, and its all signs of the forthcoming of unicron.
